What a CFD is
A contract for difference (CFD) is an agreement to exchange the change in an instrument's price between the moment you open a position and the moment you close it. You do not own the currency, the metal, the shares in the index or the barrel of oil. You trade on its price.
- Both directions. Buy if you expect the price to rise, sell if you expect it to fall. A wrong call loses money either way.
- Profit or loss is the difference between the opening and closing price, multiplied by the size of the position, less costs.
- Margin. You put up a fraction of the position's value as margin. Leverage magnifies gains and losses alike.
- Costs. The spread on every trade, a commission per lot on Raw and Pro, and a swap for each night a position stays open.

Indicative prices from the OGOFX platform, updated every two seconds. Spreads are variable and widen around news and market opens. Currency pairs: spread in pips; other markets: the difference in price, as quoted.
The same conditions in every market
One platform, one set of rules. What changes from one instrument to the next is its price, its spread, its swap and its trading hours.
-
One web terminal
All instruments trade in the OGOFX web terminal, which runs in your browser with nothing to install, and in its own layout on your phone.
-
Three account types
Standard, Raw and Pro trade the same instruments. Only the pricing differs. Standard has no commission; its markup is in the spread ($1 a lot on currency pairs, 50% of the spread on metals, indices and energy). Raw and Pro charge the liquidity provider's raw spread plus commission per lot, charged once when the position opens.
-
Charts and studies
Candles, bars, Heikin Ashi, line and area charts from one minute to one week, with moving averages, Bollinger bands, RSI, MACD and more.
-
Orders you control
Market, limit and stop orders, stop loss and take profit, one-click trading and partial close.
-
Leverage you choose
Set leverage when you open the account, from 1:1 up to 1:500 on Standard, 1:500 on Raw or 1:200 on Pro.
-
Balance stops at zero
A loss deeper than the balance is written off; the balance stops at zero.
The costs of a position
Three separate things can cost you money on a position. The current figures for every instrument are published on Fees.
Spread
The gap between the buy price and the sell price. You buy at the higher price and sell at the lower one, so a new position starts with a loss equal to the spread. Spreads are variable and move with the market. Standard has no commission; its markup is in the spread ($1 a lot on currency pairs, 50% of the spread on metals, indices and energy). Raw and Pro trade the liquidity provider's raw spread plus commission per lot, charged once when the position opens.
Commission
Raw charges $7 and Pro $5 per lot, once, when the position opens. Closing the position costs nothing more. Standard charges no commission.
Swap
A position held past the broker's daily rollover, at broker midnight, is charged or paid a swap. It depends on the instrument and the direction. Wednesday counts three nights on every instrument today. The tables show swap in US dollars per lot per night, and the rates are the same on every account: the liquidity provider's rate with a 50% markup, so a charged swap is made larger by that share and a paid swap smaller. Swap is charged after you trade, for each night a position stays open.
Session times for every instrument are on Trading hours, in broker server time (UTC+3 at the time of publishing; it moves by an hour with daylight saving).
