What you can trade

SymbolInstrumentWhat it is
USOILWTI Crude OilWest Texas Intermediate, the main benchmark for crude oil produced in the United States.
UKOILBrent Crude OilBrent, the benchmark for North Sea crude and widely used to price oil traded internationally.
NATGASNatural GasNatural gas, used for heating and power generation. Its price is often more volatile than crude oil.

Each is a CFD (contract for difference): you do not buy or take delivery of oil or gas. You take a position on the price, and your result is the difference between your opening and closing prices multiplied by your volume. Energy CFDs are priced in US dollars, the same currency as your account.

What moves energy prices

Energy prices respond to supply and demand, and both can change quickly.

  • Supply. Production decisions by oil-producing countries, output disruptions and changes in stored inventories.
  • Demand. The pace of economic growth, industrial activity and travel.
  • Weather and season. Natural gas in particular reacts to cold winters and hot summers, when heating and cooling use rises.
  • The US dollar. Oil is priced in dollars, so a change in the dollar can move the price.
  • Events. Political tension in producing regions and scheduled data releases can widen spreads and move prices in seconds.

You can trade in either direction: buy if you expect the price to rise, sell if you expect it to fall.

Trading energy at OGOFX

  • Costs listed in the tables

The current spread, the commission and the swap of each energy CFD are listed in the tables below. Spreads move with the market, and swap is charged later, for each night a position stays open.

  • Leverage you choose

Set your leverage when you open the account, from 1:1 up to 1:500 on Standard, 1:500 on Raw or 1:200 on Pro.

  • Stops and limits on every order

Market, limit and stop orders, with stop loss, take profit and partial close, in the web terminal.

  • Balance stops at zero

A loss deeper than the balance is written off; the balance stops at zero.

How each account prices energy

  • Standard has no commission; its markup is in the spread: 50% of the spread is added on energy, so energy spreads on Standard are wider than on Raw and Pro.
  • Raw trades the liquidity provider's raw spread plus $7 commission per lot, charged once when the position opens.
  • Pro trades the liquidity provider's raw spread plus $5 commission per lot, charged once when the position opens.

A position held past the broker's daily rollover is charged or paid swap for each night it stays open; Wednesday counts three nights on every energy CFD today. The tables show swap in US dollars per lot per night, the same on every account: the liquidity provider's rate with a 50% markup. Energy swaps can be large compared with currency pairs, so check the rate in the table before holding a position for days.

Spreads live from the platform: currency pairs in pips, other markets as the difference in price as quoted. Raw and Pro trade the liquidity provider's spread. Standard's spread includes its markup: $1 a lot on currency pairs and 50% of the spread on metals, indices and energy. Commission is charged once per lot when a position opens. Swap in US dollars for one lot for one night, at today's rates from the platform (23 October 2026); minus means you pay, plus means you are paid.

Sizing an energy trade

Energy CFDs have their own contract sizes and lot steps, and they are not the same for oil and gas. Before you trade, look up the instrument in the table below.

  • Position value = lots × contract size × price, in US dollars.
  • Profit or loss = lots × contract size × the change in price.
  • Margin = position value ÷ leverage. The leverage used is the lowest of your account's leverage and any limit set for the instrument.

An account can hold up to 2 lots open in one instrument, so the largest order is 2 lots. The cap applies to each instrument in each account, not to the account in total. Margin call is at a margin level of 100%; at 50% (stop-out) positions start to be closed. The margin calculator works with live prices.

From the OGOFX platform, 23 October 2026. Swap is for one lot for one night, in US dollars at today's rates, the same on every account; minus means you pay, plus means you are paid. The liquidity provider can change these terms; the platform refreshes its swap rates every night.
