The metals you can trade
| Symbol | Metal | Priced in |
|---|---|---|
| XAUUSD | Gold | US dollars |
| XAUEUR | Gold | Euros |
| XAGUSD | Silver | US dollars |
| XPTUSD | Platinum | US dollars |
| XPDUSD | Palladium | US dollars |
Metals trade as CFDs: you take the change in the metal's price without buying, storing or insuring the metal. Contract size, digits and minimum trade differ from metal to metal. Every figure is in the specifications below.
XAUEUR is priced in euros, so its profit, loss and margin are worked out in euros and converted to US dollars, the currency of your account. Its price moves with gold and with the euro against the dollar.
Four metals, four characters
Gold is the most widely traded precious metal. Central banks hold it as a reserve asset, and investors use it as a store of value. It is usually the deepest of the metals markets.
Silver is both a store of value and an industrial input, used in electronics and solar panels. It often follows gold, with larger swings in percentage terms.
Platinum and palladium are mainly industrial metals. Their largest single use is in catalytic converters for vehicle exhausts, and most of their supply comes from a small number of countries. These markets are smaller, so prices can move sharply and spreads are wider than on gold.
What moves metal prices
Metals respond to money and to industry. These are the forces traders watch most. Their effect varies over time, and none of them sets a price on its own.
-
The US dollar
Metals are mostly priced in dollars. A weaker dollar makes them cheaper for buyers in other currencies, and a stronger one more expensive. The two often move in opposite directions, but not always.
-
Interest rates
Gold and silver pay no interest. When interest rates after inflation rise, holding them means giving up more income elsewhere. When those rates fall, that cost shrinks.
-
Inflation expectations
Some investors buy gold to protect against rising prices, so inflation data and central bank comments can move it.
-
Safe-haven demand
Financial stress, conflict and political uncertainty can bring buying into gold in particular. Demand can fall away quickly once the worry passes.
-
Industrial demand
Silver, platinum and palladium depend on factories and carmakers. Manufacturing data, vehicle sales and changes in technology all affect demand.
-
Supply and reserves
Mine output, strikes, recycling and central bank buying or selling change how much metal is available.

How metals trade at OGOFX
Every account trades all 5 metals in the same terminal. Standard has no commission; its markup is in the spread: 50% of the spread is added on metals, and on XAUUSD a small fixed amount is added as well. Raw and Pro trade the liquidity provider's raw spread plus commission per lot, charged once when the position opens. Spreads move with the market; the fees table further down shows the current spread on each account for every metal.
| Standard | Raw | Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Commission per lot | None | $7 | $5 |
| Maximum leverage | 1:500 | 1:500 | 1:200 |
| Minimum first deposit | $5 | $5,000 | $20,000 |
| Margin call / stop out | 100% / 50% | 100% / 50% | 100% / 50% |
Order and position terms
- Trade size: from 0.01 lot on most instruments, in steps of 0.01. Some instruments have a larger minimum and step; the specifications table shows each one.
- Order size: an account can hold up to 2 lots open in one instrument, so the largest order is 2 lots. The cap applies to each instrument in each account, not to the account in total.
- Trading accounts: you can hold up to 3.
- Orders: market, limit and stop orders, stop loss and take profit, one-click trading and partial close.
- Execution: market execution. Orders are routed to OGOFX's liquidity provider and filled at the price available when they arrive, which can differ from the price on screen in a fast market.
Overnight positions
A metals position held past the broker's daily rollover, at broker midnight, is charged or paid a swap, which can be negative in both directions. Wednesday counts three nights on every metal today. The tables show swap in US dollars per lot per night, and the rates are the same on every account: the liquidity provider's rate with a 50% markup, so a charged swap is made larger by that share and a paid swap smaller. The swap applies every night, so its cost grows the longer you hold a position. Check the current rate in the fees table before you plan to hold for weeks.
Trading hours
Metals trade Monday to Friday with a daily break around the rollover, in broker server time (UTC+3 at the time of publishing; it moves by an hour with daylight saving). Session times for each metal are on Trading hours.

Standard's spread includes its markup: $1 a lot on currency pairs and 50% of the spread on metals, indices and energy, and on XAUUSD a further 13 points. Swap in US dollars for one lot for one night, at today's rates from the platform (23 October 2026); minus means you pay, plus means you are paid.
