How to read the tables
Every instrument has the same set of columns. Here is what each one means and why it matters to your trade.
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Symbol | The name of the instrument in the web terminal, for example EURUSD or US500. |
| Contract size | How much of the underlying one lot represents. For a currency pair it is an amount of the first currency in the pair; for a metal, an index or an energy CFD it is the number of units of the price. Multiply it by your lots and by the price to get the value of your position. |
| Digits | The number of decimal places in the price. The last decimal place is one point, the smallest move the price can make. On a currency pair quoted to five decimals, ten points make one pip; on a pair quoted to three decimals, such as the yen pairs, ten points also make one pip. |
| Min lot | The smallest volume you can open in that instrument. |
| Lot step | The increment above the minimum. With a step of 0.01, an order of 0.37 lots is accepted; with a step of 0.1, it must be 0.3 or 0.4. |
| Margin currency | The currency in which the margin for the position is worked out before it is converted into your account's US dollars. |
| Profit currency | The currency in which profit and loss arise. If it is not the US dollar, the result is converted into dollars for your account. |
| Swap long | The overnight amount, in US dollars per lot per night, for holding a buy position past the daily rollover. A negative figure is charged to you; a positive figure is paid to you. The rates are the same on every account. |
| Swap short | The same for a sell position. Long and short rates are set separately and are rarely equal. |
| Triple swap | The night of the week on which swap is applied three times, to cover the weekend when markets are closed but positions stay open. Today it is Wednesday on every instrument. |
Order and account limits
These apply on top of each instrument's own minimum lot and lot step.
-
Smallest order
0.01 lots, or the instrument's minimum lot where that is larger. Some metals, indices and energy CFDs start at a larger size.
-
Largest order
2 lots. An account can hold up to 2 lots open in one instrument, so no single order can be larger than that.
-
Open volume per instrument
One account can hold at most 2 lots open in any one instrument. The cap is per instrument, so positions in other instruments do not count against it. An order that would go over it is refused.
-
Accounts per client
Up to 3 trading accounts, each with its own balance, leverage and limits.
Working out a position
The columns above are all you need to work out what a trade means in money.
- Position value = lots × contract size × price, in the profit currency.
- Value of one point = lots × contract size × the size of one point (for five digits, 0.00001), in the profit currency.
- Profit or loss = lots × contract size × (closing price − opening price) for a buy, or (opening price − closing price) for a sell, then converted into US dollars.
- Margin on a currency pair = lots × contract size ÷ leverage, in the margin currency (the first currency of the pair), then converted into US dollars.
- Margin on a metal, index or energy CFD = lots × contract size × price ÷ leverage, in the margin currency, then converted into US dollars.
The leverage used is the lowest of your account's leverage and any limit set for the instrument.
Margin call is at a margin level of 100%; at 50% (stop-out) positions start to be closed. The leverage and margin page explains both and has a calculator with live prices.
How swap is charged
Swap is the overnight financing of a position. It is charged or paid at the broker's daily rollover, at midnight broker server time (UTC+3 at the time of publishing; it moves by an hour with daylight saving), on every position that is open at that moment. A position opened and closed within the same broker day pays no swap.
- At the rollover the platform looks at each open position.
- It applies the long or short rate for that instrument to the volume you hold.
- On Wednesday night, the triple-swap night on every instrument today, it applies the rate three times.
- The amount is added to the position's swap, which counts in your equity straight away and is settled to your balance when the position closes.
The tables show swap in US dollars per lot per night. The rates are the same on Standard, Raw and Pro: the liquidity provider's rate with a 50% markup, so a swap that is charged is made larger by that share and a swap that is paid is made smaller. Swap rates change with interest rates and the market.
